Newstead Community Garden

Newstead Community Garden is located on a picturesque site behind the Anglican Church - access from Layard Street. Fencing, shed and water infrastructure are in place and fruit trees have been planted. Twelve individual plots were allocated at a launch on 16th May 2010 and ground is being prepared to provide more plots. Communal areas have been planted with asparagus, strawberries, artichoke, garlic, rhubarb and assorted vegetables. A beautiful garden is being created.

More tools and equipment will soon be available thanks to a Federal Government Volunteers grant. Current projects include construction of a greenhouse, a Compost Making Workshop (see Events) and development of a proposal to bring art into the garden.

Monthly peace meditations continue under the wonderful old Peppercorn tree on the first Sunday of each month. Come along at 9am to sit in silence for half an hour of self-guided meditation. Just arrive in silence, bring a cushion, chair or anything needed for comfort and turn your heart to what needs attention.
