Internode Renews Community Wireless Sponsorship

For the last year, the ADSL connections that help provide the free wireless network in town have been sponsored by Internode.  Recently the arrangement was reviewed and Internode have agreed to sponsor the services for another year.  The ongoing support of Internode and the initial sponsorship from Mt Alexander Shire have made the whole project possible.

Over the next 12 months we hope to see even greater use of the network.  The RTC has recently purchased a digial photoframe that is wifi enabled and we are exploring ways to use the frame in interesting ways.  If you have any ideas for using the network, please let us know via the website newstead.vic.au/contact.

The access points are hosted by the RTC, dig cafe and the Community Centre to provide coverage from the butchers to the bridge and round the RTC in Lyons Street.

July saw the steady growth in use of the wireless service continue, with about a 10% increase in traffic.
